"As a volunteer for the Racine Campus, I directly get to observe the fabulous work that staff and other volunteers do every day to care for the animals and help them find homes. I get to see first-hand the needs of the organization and the community. The Critter Chronicles allows us to see the work done throughout all of the campuses around the state.

Once I retired, I wanted to volunteer with an organization where I could work with and help animals. With volunteering, I saw what was needed to care for the animals who came through our doors. We discussed WHS and decided that caring for animals in our community was important to us. We liked that it was local and working in our community.

I was invited to one of the WHS seminars for setting up a trust. Afterwards, we scheduled an appointment with a lawyer and created a trust. My husband and I discussed which charities interested us and WHS was on that list.

Animals have always been in my heart and are very important to me. Seeing the work firsthand, I wanted to support the ongoing efforts. In the two-ish years that I've volunteered, it seems that the community needs are increasing. It seems that more and more people are turning to WHS for assistance with their animals.

Find a charity that you believe in and can stand behind. Any amount is important, so even if your legacy isn't huge, it will help further the activities of that charity…

It's incredible the number of animals who come through our [WHS] doors, whether helping someone reconnect with a lost pet, providing low-cost vaccines, or a place to find that next furry friend, WHS does their best to meet those needs. With the cost of caring for a pet increasing, WHS is there to help."
